The forts whose biographies comprise the book were selected by a poll of twenty-five outstanding Texas historians. Then to write the spectacular stories of these key frontier forts the Editoral Board of Texian Press selected eight well-known historical writers. The result has been dramatic! The impressive color paintings of each fort was done by Melvin C Warren.
