Description
This scrimshawed powder horn is finished with a warm cream color patina on the body and a tan tip. The tip has a raised end to secure a strap, and an engrailed border to the horn body. The horn measures 13-3/4″ around the outside curve from the tip to the end of the wood base. The iron staple adds about 3/8″ to the overall length. The base is secured to the horn with small wood pegs. A wooden stopper is fitted. The horn is scrimshawed with a Daniel Boone theme. The one side is scrimshawed with Daniel Boone holding his rifle while riding his horse. A man-in-the-moon face is scrimshawed above a banner that reads Daniel Boone 1807. The opposite side is scrimshawed with a rising sun and two flowers surrounding a banner that reads FEMME OSAGE BOONE SETTLEMENT. Below Scottish thistles and doves are scrimshawed along with Daniel Boone’s youngest son NATHAN and this wife OLIVE. This horn will be a joy to both use and display.
