    What Does “Non-Scratch” Actually Mean?
    In the world of precision seals and o-ring pick tools, “non-scratch” refers to the material hardness of the tool relative to the hardware it’s servicing.

    The Science of Metal Hardness: Our OPICK-BR (Brass) picks are machined from solid brass. On the Mohs scale of material hardness, brass rates at approximately a 3. This is significantly softer than the steel, stainless steel, or anodized aluminum typically used in engines, mechanical components, scuba regulators, and more.

    Surface Protection: Because brass is the “softer” metal, the pick is designed to give way or wear down before it can gouge or scratch your metal glands and o-ring grooves.

    Why the sharp tip for a non-scratch tool?
    A sharp point is a functional necessity to get under a seated o-ring and remove it from its groove. However, don’t let the “sharpness” of the tip fool you. Even with the sharp point of a brand new brass pick, you’ll find that the tip will naturally dull over time with heavy use.
