This Gemmer Hawken – Remington Rolling Block conversion is stocked in walnut, and trimmed in iron furniture. This conversion was assemble around an original post 1901 smokeless powder No. 1 Remington Rolling Block late action. The buttstock is fitted with a tall crescent steel buttplate. The triggerguard has the classic Hawken scroll shape. The heavy barrel is fitted with a Beach front sight and a Sharps buckhorn ladder rear sight. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. This conversion rifle weighs 12.0 pounds and has a trigger reach of 13-5/8″. We must deliver to a Minnesota resident, or to a licensed dealer in any other state. The barrel is 1-1/8″ straight octagon with an overall length of 28″, rust browned to a smooth silvery-brown finish. The barrel is fitted with an under rib and ramrod pipes to accept the 3/8″ diameter cleaning rod. The rod has a brass tip with 8-32 threads for cleaning accessories. The top flat is marked 45-70 and the left oblique flat is stamped MK near the breach. A Beach combination front sight is dovetailed 1″ behind the muzzle. A small blade is in the down position, and it is flipped up for a covered fine post front sight. A Sharps buckhorn style ladder sight is mounted 7″ ahead of the action. Stocked in black walnut, the stock has a small amount of figure. The stock has an aged patina finish that complements the rest of the rifle. The buttstock is fitted with a tall, crescent steel buttplate. A long Hawken style toeplate helps to protect this delicate area of the stock. The forearm is secured with two wedge keys mounted through oval escutcheons. The forearm is finished with a pewter tip and a browned iron ramrod entry pipe. This nice single shot rifle has a strong mainspring. The hammer and breech block are finished to a dull gray, and the action is finished to match the barrel. The action has a few marks typical of use. The action is fitted with the typical military style single trigger. The trigger guard is a classic Hawken style scroll shape. The upper tang is marked Remington Arms Co. / Ilion. N.Y. U.S.A. / Patented Octr. 23nd 1901 in three lines. This Gemmer conversion Remington Rolling Block will be a great addition to your collection.
