A good range round and plinking round for the .32 S&W Long or .32 Colt New Police, this is a nice defensive option too, with the semi jacketed hollow point projectile in a 98 grain weight load offering. The performance is mild, just like the recoil and the fact that it was formerly a first choice for the New York City law enforcement agencies and many others, doesn’t mean that the round is particularly potent from a stopping power perspective. The round was originally introduced in 1896. Not many pistol rounds from that era are known for huge stopping power, other than the massive big bores. That said, this is a very accurate round and a competent performer in anything that can chamber and fire it.
Many of the guns capable of shooting this round are very old. Though there are many guns being produced now for the 25 meter centerfire competitions that utilize this .32 S&W Long load. Some of the finest small production pistol companies in the world produce guns in new manufacture in this caliber. Among those are Hammerli, Pardini and Walther.
While this ammunition is safe to fire in any firearm chambered for the cartridge, the older guns should be checked for functionality first.
