This 7.62×39 is substantially similar to the 70’s and 80’s ammo that flooded the market in the 80’s and 90’s for the AK’s, SKS’s and other firearms in this proven caliber. The 124 grain FMJ projectile with a steel lacquered casing and a Berdan primer is just as you remember but it doesn’t come in pine boxes or spam cans now, despite the deceptively similar prices and performance.
A genuinely excellent round, the 7.62×39 has been proven for decades in battle to be very efficient at ranges from 50 yards to 300+ with very little downside. The significant performance of this caliber makes it one of the most beloved rounds in history. Not only is It the basis of famous weapon systems, but it is also a round upon which whole countries have built their infantry. As far as this load is concerned, it is about as close as you can find to the original mil-surplus ammunition that found its way over into the U.S.A.
