A good stopgap between the .22 WMR (.22 Magnum) and the .223 Remington for varmint hunting, this is the .22 centerfire round that was first introduced in 1930 and has since gone on to be quite the darling of those who want to reload fast rounds for flat shooting. The .22 Hornet is a centerfire cartridge that offers very fast speeds, a high bullet weight and a lot of versatility across the spectrum of projectiles, velocities and energy delivery. It can be loaded as small as 34 grains and as high as 55 grains

In history however, the .22 Hornet has been much more versatile with use cases being extended to Polar bear hunting by the Inuit tribe in Alaska, to turkeys, where it holds a record for the longest shot; to deer, where there is a lot of controversy about the suitability for game of that size all the way down to small game and birds like grouse.

Today in the United States, it is primarily used as a varmint gun and it excels for those who want virtually nonexistent recoil and low noise (relative) as well as nice performance up to about 275 yards.

This is a 45 grain FMJ load in boxer primed brass from Sellier & Bellot out of the Czech Republic.
