You wouldn’t be able to tell that this is among the best performing 762x54R ammunition available if you gauged it just by relative price point and the somewhat cartoonish box it comes in. It is, however, and has been for many years. The serious accuracy, build quality, cartridge longevity and reliability makes this a perfect choice for any 7.62x54R including any of the semi auto variants. It simply performs; and offers something others cannot: accuracy that is virtually unmatched for the big round.
This is a non-reloadable steel cartridge casing with a Berdan primer, which ensures absolutely the best ignition reliability in the market, and the coating on the casing ensures excellent reliability in extraction. In this case it’s a Brown lacquer coating that has been proven for all styles of the chambering. This coating color gives the load its name.
This is a 185 grain full metal jacket that gives a great sized projectile for bigger game (assuming you can hunt in your area with a FMJ round), and the static ballistics are impressive for this load that fits squarely in the middle of available payloads. You’re going to experience more than 2400 feet per second velocity out of most firearms in the 7.62x54R with this loadout, and that is sufficient for just about any big game target you’d be after. You can expect less than 2MOA consistently with 1.5MOA on most rifles.
