This light weight half-stock .36 caliber percussion rifle is offered as used with a bright bore. This rifle was assembled from a kit by Traditions and is known as their “Frontier Gander” rifle. The barrel is factory blued, but the tang was left in-the-white. The beech stock is unfinished, no stain or sealer was ever applied. The barrel is factory drilled and taped for a scope base. Trigger reach is 13-3/4″, to fit today’s medium to tall shooter. This rifle weighs only 7.2 pounds.The 28″ long octagon barrel is factory blued with many light scratches and a speckled brown patina from use. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. Rifled with a 1:48 twist, it was made shooting for patched round balls. We recommend our Hornady .350″ round ball, .015″ Ox-Yoke bulk , and 40 grains of FFFg powder. A blued iron bead front sight is dovetailed just behind the muzzle. A windage and elevation click adjustable rear sight is mounted so it sits 8-1/4″ ahead of the breech. The barrel is marked with the safety warnings on the left oblique flat, and the right oblique flat is marked with the manufactures information and caliber. The top flat has four holes drilled and taped for mounting a scope base. The factory drilled and taped holes have filler screws. The dainty ramrod is a duralumin alloy rod, finished black, and threaded for 10-32 accessories. The tang of the hooked breech was left in-the-white and has developed a speckled brown patina. The tang engages a hooked breech, allowing easy cleaning in the field. To dismount the barrel for cleaning, place the lock at half cock, withdraw the ramrod, remove the single wedge key located forward and below the barrel. Use a small brass drift, such as our TOOL-KEY-B. Once the key is removed, lift the barrel from the muzzle to unhook the breech from the tang. Remove the nipple and place the breech end of the barrel in a bucket of soapy water. Run a wet patch down and up the bore, the pumping action will flush all the fouling from the barrel. Once the bore is clean, run a dry patch down the bore to pick up any moisture followed by a oily patch. Dry and oil the exterior then reassemble the rifle. The butt end is fitted with a simple brass buttplate, with slight curvature, for comfort. Unfinished, the buttplate was not filed flush with the stock. This small caliber rifle will not produce much recoil. The beech stock is unfinished, no stain or sealer was ever applied. A few small handling marks can be found in the wood. No toeplate is fitted to this rifle. The polished brass triggerguard is retained with two steel screws. The brass has become slightly tarnished, from use. A short brass nosecap serves as the ramrod entry pipe. Two brass ramrod pipes are mounted to the barrel rib, to support the ramrod. No cheek piece is formed in the buttstock. The lock bolts pass through two simple brass washer style sideplates. The popular Maslin percussion lock is fitted to this rifle, with a drum and nipple ignition. The lock is color case hardened, and factory engraved in the traditional pattern. This lock features a fly detent, to allow the double set triggers to fire set or unset. You may cock the lock, or set the triggers in any sequence. We stock 6-1mm threaded nipples, CVA-S for this rifle. We recommend that you remove the nipple using our NW-170 nipple wrench, wash the nipple, and dab a tiny amount of BC-CTL Birchwood Casey Choke Tube Lube on the threads, when cleaning your rifle.This handy rifle will be perfect for your next small game hunt.
